There are more than 100 Autoimmune Disease
Some are well known, such as psoriasis, multiple sclerosis, crohn’s disease, and rheumatoid arthritis, while others are rare and difficult to diagnose. With unusual autoimmune diseases, patients may suffer years before getting a proper diagnosis. Most of these diseases have no cure. Some require lifelong treatment to ease symptoms.
One of the functions of the immune system is to protect the body by responding to invading microorganisms, such as viruses or bacteria, by producing antibodies or sensitized lymphocytes (types of white blood cells). Under normal conditions, an immune response cannot be triggered against the cells of one’s own body. In some cases, however, immune cells make a mistake and attack the very cells that they are meant to protect. This can lead to a variety of autoimmune diseases. They encompass a broad category of related diseases in which the person’s immune system attacks his or her own tissue.
Autoimmune disease affects 23.5 million Americans, and nearly 80 percent of those are women.
Prior Authorization Support
Quite often, prescription insurance plans require your doctor to obtain a prior authorization for speciality medications. Basically, this means that the medication to treat your condition must be pre-approved before you can receive it.
The good news is that Premier Pharmacy’s RAPIDx Prior Authorization Program works tirelessly with your doctor to identify and gather the necessary information. In doing so, we free up some time for your doctor and care team so that they can focus on giving you the care and attention you need.
Financial Assistance Support
Specialty medication therapy can be costly even with insurance coverage. Our experienced and knowledgeable team specialists help patients gain access to funding to help make medication costs more affordable. Some available resources include:
Government funded programs
Disease specific foundations
